When the child begins to pronounce his first words, the parents are excited. They are small sounds (pa-pa, ma-ma) that gradually make the tongue get stronger. Later other phonemes will arrive, such as ta, ra, da, until you finally acquire that ability to carry on a conversation. But what happens when a child has difficulty speaking? Everything is a question of stimulating and favoring the mobility of your tongue. Since our site We tell you how!

Language is one of the main work objectives for any speech therapist, since it has a relevant role in functions as important as speech. speak and swallow (the fact of chewing and swallowing food). Here are four simple and fun steps to easily stimulate her from home.

Our goal with these simple steps will be stimulate the tongue, to improve their sensitivity and thus facilitate their more active participation in all their functions. Therefore, it may be useful in children with speech difficulties (who poorly articulate certain sounds) and dysfunctional swallowing (diagnosed by their speech therapist or dentist).

For the next four steps of the proposal, we will only need the help of a small ear stick with their respective cottons at the ends.

This swab can be soaked in fresh water and in different flavors (acidic, such as lemon or sweet, such as chocolate) or it can be applied dry. With the change in temperature and the flavors introduced, the game will be much easier for the child, while in the dry, the difficulty will be greater and there will be more training.

It's recommended that each of these small steps is considered as a game and fun time with children, it is even advisable to take advantage of the daily moments in which we are used to brushing our teeth, in front of the mirror and with our mouths open (for approximately no more than a minute or couple of minutes).

The proposal to follow consists of four steps, and in all of them the most important double exercise of the tongue, the elevation and the stimulation of the tip of the tongue, will be sought:

- Sides
With the stick in hand, we caress the sides of the tongue from back to front towards the tip of the tongue.

- Center
We gently caress the center of the tongue from back to front with the stick, towards the tip of the tongue.

- Bottom
We caress the lower part of the tongue with this swab, directly on the tongue and also on the floor of the mouth, watching over and respecting the frenulum, but also trying to raise it and raise the tongue towards the palate.

- touches
Finally (if we need to, we can change the swab at any time), we give small touches to different points of the tongue and, like a game, they have to point out where we have touched them.

Do these exercises with your child at home every day (consistency is the most important thing in these cases) and you will see how he will improve little by little.
