By 5 or 6 months, it is very common for some babies to start drooling more than normal, and for their first teeth to start to appear, usually on their lower gums.

This is the dawn of their teething, a very special moment for parents, but without cause for celebration for babies.

The first teeth to come out are the lower front incisors. Two months later, the four upper incisors usually come out. And so on. By the turn of 15 months, babies should have almost all of their full milk teething. In this period, that is, from the appearance of the first teeth until the baby reaches the first teething stage, it is natural for his gums to swell and become inflamed, causing him a lot of pain and irritation.

Aside from pain and discomfort, babies also have difficulty falling asleep and less appetite at mealtime. The itching and pain caused by the teeth coming out, or the difficulty that some have to come out, make the baby cry more than normal and many parents do not know what to do to help him. Therefore, it is very important to identify the causes of the baby's crying, to take the appropriate measures. If it is because of the teeth coming out, here are some tips to alleviate the discomfort of the baby's teeth:

1- Rubbing the gums with the tip of a clean finger can soothe the pain that your baby feels.
2- Keep the baby's face always clean and dry. Babies at this stage tend to drool a lot, and saliva that comes into contact with their skin can cause some eczema and irritation.
3- Play with the baby. Offer hard rubber, rings, or cold teethers (never frozen) for baby to chew on.
4- Offer liquids, jellies, or other cold food, even a cold tissue. Cold tends to numb the gums and ease pain.
5- In case your baby is very irritated, you can apply a pediatric gum gel, topical solutions or analgesic, anti-inflammatory or antipyretic medications, from when your doctor prescribes it.
6- Be next to your baby and give him a lot of love. It is important for him to feel that you are by his side, even at this difficult time in his life.
